ROTABLATOR technique in Rabat

Cardiologist

The Rotablator technique is essential for the treatment of highly calcified arterial strictures that do not give way to the inflation of the angioplasty balloon. The Rotablator is a device for treating calcified arteries by removing atheromatous plaque using a diamond bur rotating at very high speed (140,000 to 190,000 rpm). It works according to the principle of differential shearing, (principle already used for example for plaster saws) which makes it possible to destroy calcified atheromatous plaque without damaging the underlying elastic tissues such as those of the normal walls of vessels. The plaque is destroyed into very fine particles which enter the bloodstream and are destroyed in the spleen.
