Psoriasis is a chronic disease of the skin. This often familial dermatosis has an autoimmune component. It usually affects the skin, nails, scalp, mucous membranes and / or joints. There are five types of skin psoriasis (plaque, guttate, folded, erythrodermic and pustular psoriasis) and 2 types of joint psoriasis (axial and peripheral psoriatic arthritis). Plaque psoriasis, the most common type of psoriasis, forms red, scabbed (skin dandruff), silvery-white (scaly) spots or patches that most commonly develop on the scalp, elbows, knees and bottom back. The most recent knowledge suggests that inflammation due to psoriasis may have a role in the onset of other diseases that are often associated with it - depression, diabetes, overweight, lipid disorders (cholesterol and triglycerides) and heart disease.
