Colonoscopy is the visual examination of the colon through a probe called a colonoscope. It is a digestive endoscopy, an invasive method of exploration and medical imaging, allowing the exploration of the rectum and the entire colon up to the ileo-colic junction (small intestine). It can be performed for diagnostic purposes (by looking for tumors) and therapy (removal of polyps: a small growth that develops on the mucous membranes, a benign tumor that can turn into cancer).
