The polyp is a proliferation of abnormal cells which develop on the surface of the mucous membrane and form a more or less elevated and more or less spread out relief. Over time, some cells of this polyp can become cancerous, which is called a degenerate polyp or even cancer. This polyp must be removed before it becomes dangerous.
Removal of a polyp can be done during a colonoscopy if it is not too large or too spread out on the surface.
