Renal lithiasis is a common condition usually discovered during a first episode of renal colic.
Although often trivialized and referred to as "idiopathic", significant disorders can be associated with it such as metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and bone fragility. Thus, renal lithiasis can be considered as a systemic disease requiring specific management. Patients with recurrent episodes of renal colic or significant comorbidities should therefore be able to benefit from a specialist consultation. A precise metabolic diagnosis would then be established and personalized treatment could be offered with the aim of preventing lithiasis recurrence and promoting the early diagnosis of comorbidities.
