Electroretinogram

Neurologist

The electroretinogram (ERG) is a graphical representation of electrical activity in the retina that is presented as a paper trace. Electroretinography makes it possible to clarify the diagnosis of certain hereditary retinal pathologies, or to monitor the retina in the event of taking drugs (antimalarials, for example) that may degrade it. The examination is also frequently prescribed for various indications such as retinitis (inflammation of the retina), macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, retinal tumors, loss of visual field, deterioration of vision, before cataract surgery, etc.
