Lumbar puncture (spinal tap) is a medical examination that collects cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), or cerebrospinal fluid, in the subarachnoid cavity through a puncture in the back, between two vertebrae. It can be performed under local anesthesia, using a fine needle.
