Retinal detachment surgery

Ophthalmologist

It corresponds to a pocket of fluid under the retina. Retinal detachment is most often caused by the development of one or more retinal tears. Certain conditions predispose to retinal detachment: myopia, cataract surgery, trauma to the eye, history of retinal detachment in the other eye, family history of retinal detachment. The treatment consists of reapplying the detached retina by one of the methods described below: - Closure of the tear (s) by suturing a synthetic material on the outer wall of the eye by localized action (localized indentation) and / or circular (circular indentation also called ringing of the eye). - Healing of the edges of the tear by application of cold (cryo-application), of heat (diathermy, laser photocoagulation). - Closure of the tear (s), in some cases by injecting gas into the eye socket - Puncture of subretinal fluid. - Vitrectomy. - Replacement of the vitreous body with gas or silicone oil. - Removal of the lens.
