The conjunctiva: This is the transparent membrane that covers the white anterior part of the eye and the posterior aspect of the eyelids. The lesion is usually completely removed and reconstructed either by sliding the adjacent conjunctiva or by doing a graft. If a transplant is needed, the transplant is taken either from the conjunctiva of the same eye or the opposite eye, or from the oral mucosa. An amniotic membrane transplant may also be offered in some cases of large tumor.
