Ophthalmologist

Blepharospasm is a disease that manifests itself by repeated and involuntary contractions of the muscles of the eyelids. This disease presents itself in several forms, of varying severity. It can affect only one side (hemifacial spasm) or both sides. Blepharospasm may be isolated, affecting only the eyelids, or be accompanied by contractions of other muscles of the face (Meige syndrome) or other parts of the body (generalized dystonias). Botulinum toxin is injected in very low doses into the muscles of the eyelids, and has the effect of blocking the transmission of nerve impulses from the nerve to the muscles.
