An arthrodesis is a surgical procedure intended to block an injured joint by obtaining a bone fusion (usually from the ends of the bones) in order to correct a deformity or obtain indolence. It is often a non-reversible operation. The reverse operation, which involves separating fused bones, is called disarthrodesis.
