Carpal tunnel syndrome is a peripheral neuropathy that results from compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel, a poorly extensible bone and ligament structure containing the nine flexor tendons of the fingers and the median nerve.
Any expensive process within the carpal tunnel will first compress the most fragile structure, i.e. the nerve. This compression occurs due to regional infiltration (endocrinopathy, lymphedema, pregnancy, ...), a local inflammatory process (gout, lime deposits, ...), synovitis, bone compression.
The treatment can be carried out, classically, open or by endoscopy, and is carried out anyway by the division or by the plasty of the flexor retinaculum. In addition to the section of the anterior annular ligament of the carpal, epineurolysis of the median nerve is frequently added.
