The intervention is a ligament reconstruction or plasty. It consists of replacing the ligament with a graft. The graft is taken on site (autograft). This intervention is commonly done in outpatient surgery.
When faced with an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee (which is the most frequent procedure): the surgical intervention is not systematic. It is legitimate in the patient who wishes to resume sports activities without restrictions and especially when he is young. So it's a personal choice. This is an intervention that is not done urgently, it is also desirable that the knee has recovered well (strength, movement and absence of pain) to approach the surgery in the best conditions.
