Primarily affecting the anterior region of the oval window, it gradually causes blockage of the caliper. Much more rarely, it can affect other areas of the middle and inner ear. The disease is characterized by remodeling of the bone with, first, a stage of destruction, the bone becoming like a sponge, hence the name otosclerosis, then a stage of hardening and sclerosis of the bone, hence the name otosclerosis. The purpose of the intervention is to unblock and replace the chain of ankylosed ossicles at the level of the stapes, called stapedotomy. The only alternative to the procedure is the hearing aid.
