The goal of this intervention is to remove the spleen often for hematological problems or sometimes for trauma. The risk of this intervention is bleeding. It is performed by laparoscopy (with small holes) or if the spleen is too large in a classic way with a scar. It usually lasts two hours. The surgeon must ligate and then cut the vessels which supply the spleen (splenic artery and vein). It must not damage the pancreas and the colon which are very close.
