Surgery for achalasia (megaesophagus) in Rabat

Visceral and digestive surgeon

The megaesophagus or achalasia of the esophagus corresponds to the absence of contraction of the body of the esophagus associated with too much pressure from the lower esophageal sphincter (muscle area located at the junction between the esophagus and the stomach) . The procedure involves making a section of the lower esophageal sphincter muscle a few centimeters in order to reduce the pressure at this level and remove the obstacle to the evacuation of the esophagus. It does not restore the motor skills of the body of the esophagus, explaining the possible persistence of feeding difficulties even after surgery. An anti-reflux procedure will then be performed to prevent the reflux of gastric fluid into the esophagus.
