This problem results from the passage of a stone from the gallbladder into the common bile duct. The surgical treatment of this pathology consists in removing the calculus either through the cystic duct (through which the calculus has passed), or by opening the common bile duct and performing a cholecystectomy during the same anesthesia. The situation can be made more complex by an infection of the bile ducts (cholangitis) or the anatomy of the bile ducts. If the situation is not favorable for surgery, the gastroenterologist extracts this stone (s) naturally (endoscopy) under anesthesia and cholecystectomy is performed as a second step.
