The posterior rhinoscopy examines the nasopharynx. Two techniques are possible: you can go directly through the nose with an optical fiber, which is usually rigid, or through the mouth using a small rotating mirror that allows you to examine the nasopharynx from below. The purpose of this examination is mainly to observe the orifice of the eustachian tube which opens laterally into this region.
