Removal of a cyst of the thyroglossal tract in children in Marrakech

Otolaryngologist (ENT)

This cyst, of embryonic origin, may be inapparent for several years. When it increases in volume, it becomes visible and palpable on the anterior part of the neck. There is never a spontaneous disappearance of cysts of the tract thyroglossus. The main evolutionary risk is the occurrence of superinfection of the cyst, up to an abscess with a risk of opening or fistulization in the skin. These episodes of superinfection tend to recur. The occurrence of cancerization of the cyst of the tract thyroglossal is an extremely rare and late occurrence. The goal of the intervention is to remove the cyst and its path fistula which can go down to the thyroid gland, up to the base of the tongue upwards. Withholding from therapy with supervision may be offered for a while, but it is best to perform the excision before significant superinfection.
