Treatment by curettage of an othematoma or perichondritis in Tanger

Otolaryngologist (ENT)

The othematoma occurs preferentially during the practice of contact sports (rugby) or combat (judo, wrestling) and therefore mainly affects young adults. It results from repeated lateral trauma imposing shear forces on the pinna of the ear. The diagnosis must be made quickly for early and appropriate management to prevent the occurrence of acute and late complications. The diagnosis is clinical and is made by the demonstration of a fluctuating swelling, often painful and purplish, on the anterior surface of the pinna, and more precisely on its cartilaginous part. Curative treatment is based on evacuating the hematoma and preventing re-accumulation.
