Cutaneous melanoma is a malignant tumor, which develops from the cells responsible for the natural pigmentation of the skin, the melanocytes.
The treatment of melanoma is primarily surgical. The initial excision that allows a diagnosis to be made is usually sufficient to remove the entire lesion.
