A peel is a dermatological act the purpose of which is to exfoliate the skin using an acid, the type and concentration of which allow different results to be obtained, ranging from a simple "radiance boost" to the treatment of small wrinkles and superficial scars.
- superficial peels, which remove only the superficial layers of the epidermis. They are made by the application of fruit acids (AHA, glycolic acid), or salicylic acid.
- medium peels, carried out with trichloroacetic acid (TCA) at a concentration varying from 15 to 35%, which eliminate the epidermis and the upper part of the dermis. They are made by applying fruit acids (AHA, glycolic acid), salicylic acid which is effective for acne, or kojic acid which improves pigmentary disorders (brown spots), wrinkles ...
- deep peels, performed with phenol, which eliminate the deep part of the dermis but which comes with a significant risk of permanent depigmentation, scarring and infection.
