Through plethysmography, it is possible to assess respiratory capacity by measuring the total lung capacity, as well as the resistance of the bronchi. For this, the plethysmography takes place in a sealed cabin, with a spirometer which will record the pressure variations.
This type of examination, complementary to spirometry, is more precise. It makes it possible in particular to diagnose emphysema, to follow the evolution of pneumopathies and to evaluate the effectiveness of a treatment. Plethysmography is also interesting to perform as part of a check-up before thoracic surgery.
