Surgical treatment of facial paralysis (Facial resuscitation)

Otolaryngologist (ENT)

Facial resuscitation following persistent facial paralysis involves multiple surgical techniques of varying complexity, the choice of which is determined by the cause of the paralysis, the patient's age and wishes. The most commonly used techniques are nerve transplants, dynamic muscle transfers and static lip commissure suspensions. In almost all cases, there is also medical and surgical management of the eye, and intensive rehabilitation by means of precise exercises.
