A direct laryngoscopy is an endoscopic exploration of the larynx, that is to say using a rigid tube and an operating microscope, or a magnifying lens. This examination is always performed by a surgeon in a hospital environment. Direct laryngoscopy makes it possible to determine the extent of an internal lesion of the larynx, what specialists call an endolaryngeal lesion. It also makes it possible, if necessary, to take a sample or biopsy. Finally, it allows certain therapeutic gestures to be carried out inside the larynx: on a small tumor or a polyp for example.
